Knots were developed alongside Britain’s illustrious naval history throughout the 19th and 20th century. They were once a crucial part of keeping a frigate on the seas and all crew had to know at least the basic boating knots. Nowadays they are less crucial but still important and widely used within the boating world.
A great knot to know how to tie is a Round Turn and Two Half Hitches. This is commonly used when mooring a boat, so if you have any sailing trips planned this could come in useful:

Pass the end around the post twice. This takes the strain while you tie the knot. Go around the standing end to make the first Half Hitch. Pull this tight. Continue around in the same direction to make the second Half Hitch. Pull tight to complete the knot.
