Pay for a Cruise or Buy a Yacht – What’s the Difference?

The difference is, of course, that buying your own yacht, or even renting one, is considerably more expensive than paying for a cruise ship holiday, so the question becomes; why do people buy yachts?

Ignoring the obvious status symbol of owning your own yacht, there are numerous advantages to captaining your own ship as opposed to paying for a cruise ship holiday, not least of all that you are in complete control over who accompanies you. One of the biggest complaints people have about a cruise ship holiday is when they have to spend their time surrounded by strangers who they may or may not like.

The other benefit to having your own yacht is that you don’t need to follow the typical cruise trip’s pathways; you can venture off on your own adventure to places most other people don’t know about. Not only that, but you can also do small local trips whenever you like, just to get out on the open ocean.
