When surveying a yacht there are many aspects that have to be taken into account. These will include overall appearance and external finishing, external fittings and fixtures, masts, sails, on board navigation, engine, internal fittings and fixtures, safety equipment and on board electronic devices such as radar, radios and general electronic equipment. It should never be assumed that the equipment will be satisfactory even if brand new. Careful checks should be made around the boat on a regular basis as salt water can be a corrosive liquid for many parts on board. One of the most important parts to consider are the seacocks and prop glands that could potentially let water in if they are not in good order. Osmosis of the hull can occur in older yachts with gelcoat but is less common in newer ones that are made using modern epoxies but careful inspection should be made of the hull on all boats.
