For some of us, the thought of travelling by water is simply the most daunting thing in the world. With around 50% of the UK population being afraid to swim in the ocean, it is clear to see why water travel may be challenging.
So, today we want to share with you some of our top tips for keeping yourself calm when travelling by water.
1- Just Breathe
The best way to ease any form of anxiety or fear is to simply breathe through it. Taking deep breaths in and out helps to relax your body. Doing this before you begin your travel by water will help you to feel calmer about the situation.
2- It’s Ok To Be Scared
You need to remember that it is ok to be scared. Everyone in the world is scared of something and yours is water. Most of the issue is that you will be worrying about what others will think if you let them down, or if you panic and can’t cope. That’s why you should remember it’s ok to be scared, people will be there to support you, not make fun of you.
3- Don’t Look
Now, this may seem strange, but simply don’t look. Yes, you will need to look when stepping onto the boat or ferry, but once you’re aboard don’t look. Don’t do what everyone else is doing and looking out onto the water. By keeping yourself inside the cabin you will feel safer and more secure. It helps you to forget what is happening, therefore easing your worries. If you feel confident enough to go out and have a look at the amazing views, go ahead, but it isn’t something you have to do.
Take your water travel a step at a time. You will become more confident eventually. Baby steps are the best way to go!
